Vida Jean Berquist

Vida Jean Berquist, 94 years old of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in her home surrounded by her family.

 She was born July 31, 1929 in Canonsburg, Daughter of the late Charles and Estella Cushnie Harris.

 She was a member of Waterdam Free Evangelical Church, The Red Hat Society.

 Vida graduated from Chartiers Township High School in 1947, Canonsburg Hospital Nursing School in 1950, and California University in 1970. She worked in two army hospitals, Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, then was a school nurse for South Fayette School District for 20 years.

 Vida enjoyed using her culinary skills to feed the South Fayette Band and Football Camps and the Child Evangelist Camp. She also enjoyed traveling to France, Normandy, Berlin, and Belguim, and toured the battle of the Bulge.

 Surviving are her son James (Rebecca) Berquist of Peters Township; daughter Diane Berquist of Canonsburg; five grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff) Hruby of Peters Twp., Michael Berquist of Bridgeville, Nicholas (Malaysia) Berquist of Marrieta, Ca., Zachary Berquist of Washington DC., Rachel (Alex) Berquist Pattison of New York, NY., six great grandchildren Austin, Aliza, and Madison Hruby of Peters Twp., Adeline Berquist of Bridgeville, and Rilo and Augustus Berquist af Murrieta, CA., and a sister Edith Double of Carson CA.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Ralph Berquist in 2019, son Eric in 1993, and a sister Elizabeth Melton.

 A private graveside service and interment was held on December 30, 2023 at 9:30AM in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
