Leonard Martin Sliacky

Leonard Martin Sliacky, 79 years old of McDonald, formerly of Vista Drive in Smallwood and Daisytown, PA. died November 14, 2023, in Concordia Hospice of Washington, Donnell House.

 He was born November 9, 1944, in East Pike Run Twp, Daisytown, PA, Son of the late John Edward Sliacky and Helen Susan Tobias Sliacky.

 He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, St. Mary Church, Cecil.  Leonard graduated from California Area High School then attended California State College as a history major for two years and Airline school after the Navy. Leonard worked as a customer service representative in Chicago at Midway and O’Hare and Pittsburgh International Airports for Northwest, US Air and was still actively working at Delta Airlines with his other beloved family.  Also worked in Chicago as an airport limousine driver.

 He served four years in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He trained at the Naval Station Great Lakes Regional Center in Illinois and transferred to the Alameda, California naval base serving on the USS Corral Sea aircraft carrier as a meteorologist. He received the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, and Navy Unit Commendation.

 He was a newspaper carrier in his younger years delivering around 150 papers daily in Smallwood and Granville and worked in Berkman’s Daisytown grocery store. He enjoyed golf, baseball, fishing, gardening, watching sports and loved and took great care of his home and many pets.

 Surviving is brother David Sliacky of McDonald; sister Delores Retzloff of Cecil; nephew Mark (Lisa) Retzloff of Smyrna, GA; nephew Dr. John E. Retzloff of Pensacola, FL; niece Sherry (Kevin) Franks of Washington; great-niece Rachel Gates; great-nephew Evan (Angelina) Retzloff; great great nephew Stefan Retzloff.

 He was preceded in death by Parents, Nephew Brian 'Bunya' Retzloff, and brother-in-law John Nick Retzloff.

 Friends will be received 10:00 AM- 1:30 PM, Friday, November 17, 2023, at Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road, where a blessing service will be held at 1:30 PM, followed by entombment at Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Full Military Honors accorded by the Canonsburg VFW 191 and the US Navy.
