Hazel Elizabeth Berty Johnston

Hazel Elizabeth Berty Johnston, 87 years old of Wellsburg, West Virginia, died April 22, 2024 in Trinity Health System, Steubenville, Oh.

 She was born November 22nd, 1936  in Cecil Township, Daughter of the late Walter G. and Dorothy O'Rourke Berty. 

 She was a member of Lower Buffalo UP Church, Wellsburg, WV and a former member of the Canonsburg UP Church and Chartiers Hill UP Church. She was a graduate of Cecil High School and attended Califonia Teachers College.

Hazel worked at Western Center for 28 years in charge of recreation and activities, as well as being a homemaker and farm wife. She enjoyed camping, hunting, cooking, gardening and canning.

Hazel is survived by her husband, William Johnston of Wellsburg, WV; son, William (Jody) Johnston of New Cumberland, WV; daughters, Deborah (Jim) Biggs of Wellsburg, WV; Katherine (Jim) Martin of McDonald, PA; Suzannah (Rob) Davis of Salisbury, MD, 13 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Harvey Johnston, brothers: Walter, Clarence, Charles, and David Berty, and a sister, Kathy Hall.

Friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8 PM, Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road, Cecil, PA 15321, where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 26, 2024 with Rev. John Patterson officiating.

 Interment will follow in Chartiers Hill Cemetery, Canonsburg, PA.
